# Renewing your trademark

A Panamanian trademark lasts ten years from the date the application was filed, and you can renew it for further ten-year terms. You may file the renewal from one year before the expiry date until six months after it; in those six months your mark stays fully protected, but a surcharge applies.

### Ten years from filing

The term runs from the filing date of the application, not from the date the registration was granted.

### A window of eighteen months

Renew from one year before expiry until six months after it. After that, the registration lapses by law.

### B/. 134.00 per class

The official renewal fee for each class, plus B/. 10.00 for each month or part of a month if you renew in the grace period.

[Law 35 of 1996, articles 109 to 112 and 205; Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), trademark registration guide (2023) for the B/. 134.00 fee](https://zf.mici.gob.pa/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Instructivo-Registro-de-Marcas-1.pdf)

### Renewal cannot change the mark

You cannot change the mark or add goods or services when you renew. You may shorten the list. To add anything, you file a new application.

### No publication, no opposition

A renewal is not published and cannot be opposed. It takes effect from the expiry date of the previous term.

### What you receive

DIGERPI orders the renewal by reasoned resolution and lists renewed marks in its official bulletin. A certified copy is issued only on request, for a fee.

If we register or renew your mark, we track the window and remind you well before it opens.
